Project Overview

Buybye is an autonomous retail platform that allows customers to shop in convenience stores without traditional checkout counters or staff.

The mobile app plays a central role in this experience: customers use it to access the store, browse and scan products, manage their cart and complete payment.

My work focused on designing and evolving this experience across different stages of the product, creating clearer interactions, reusable components and a more consistent end-to-end journey.

The retail industry has changed significantly as consumer expectations evolved. Customers increasingly seek speed, convenience, and autonomy, while retailers need to reduce operational costs and innovate faster. buybye was created to bridge these needs through autonomous retail technology.

How might we make autonomous shopping simple and intuitive for customers, while connecting multiple steps of the journey into one consistent experience?

The experience needed to guide users through authentication, store access, product scanning, cart management, checkout and payment without unnecessary friction.

User Flow

Based on the defined requirements, I mapped the end-to-end shopping journey to organize the core interactions and reduce friction throughout the autonomous retail experience.

The flow was structured around two main moments: preparing the customer to use the service and completing the autonomous shopping journey.

Design Goals

The experience was designed around four main goals:

01 — Simplify access
Make entering an autonomous store clear and straightforward.

02 — Reduce friction
Keep the shopping journey fast and easy to understand.

03 — Create consistency
Use common interaction and navigation patterns across the product.

04 — Build for scalability
Create reusable components and patterns that could evolve with the product.

UI Design

As the product evolved, I developed reusable components and consistent interaction patterns to create a more cohesive and scalable experience across the app.

The system helped maintain visual consistency across screens while making the interface easier to evolve and adapt as the product grew.

High-Fidelity Designs

The final interface was designed to simplify every step of the autonomous shopping experience. From QR code store access to payment confirmation, each screen prioritizes clarity, efficiency, and a frictionless user journey.

Lessons Learned

Working on Buybye strengthened my ability to design end-to-end product experiences, balancing user needs with business goals. This project reinforced the importance of clear user flows, reusable components, and consistent visual design in creating scalable and intuitive digital products.
